We cultivate books that bring beauty, meaning, and knowledge to readers, giving personal attention to each title.
Endeavor Literary Press is a hybrid publisher focusing on nonfiction books written by leading academic writers, such as Princeton University economist Markus Brunnermeier, Harvard economist Marion Laboure, and University of Toronto economist Joshua Gans.
Endeavor also publishes fiction, poetry, and memoirs. We are highly selective, choosing only to publish books that are professionally and artfully written. (We reject 90 percent of all queries.) We have a strict “no artificial intelligence” policy.
Our team provides elite editing services for university presses, academic journals, and scholarly nonfiction authors who need assistance with publishing projects.

As a hybrid press, we help authors take the book through the editorial phases all the way to publication and global distribution.
Our editorial services include editorial reviews, developmental editing, copy editing, proofreading, indexing, cover design, and typesetting. See our “editing services” page on this site.

There are three types of publishing these days: traditional, hybrid, and self-publishing.
With traditional publishing, the publisher gains the rights to publish and sell the book, sharing the profits (royalties) with the author and agent. The author does not pay any fees for the publisher’s work.
Hybrid publishing, when done professionally, offers authors an alternative approach for getting their books into the world. The editorial and design work is the same, but the publisher charges the author for its work. In return, the author keeps all sales revenue.
Self-publishing, as the term indicates, requires the author to either hire freelance editors and designers for help or do everything alone. The book is published without any business backing the book.
We are happy to discuss the pros and cons of each option.
-
One advantage of hybrid publishing is that it takes less time to launch the book. Depending on the book, the Endeavor team can usually move a manuscript into the world within three to six months.
-
Many hybrid publishers are “mills” or “vanity presses.” They make money regardless of the book’s quality or importance.
By constrast, Endeavor Literary Press is highly selective about which books we publish. The world does not need more shoddy books; people need great books by excellent authors with something valuable to say.
We take each book submission through a rigorous acquisition evaluation. Our criteria are the same that academic presses apply. If we accept the book, then we give the book our wholehearted and personal attention.
-
Each book is different. We start with an initial review of the manuscript, assess the editing needs, and then provide a transparent quote with no hidden costs. Cost factors include: writing quality, word count, number of citations, indexing needs, etc. As a general estimate, authors can expect to pay about $5,000 for an academic book with 60,000 words, including book design.
For those who only need standalone editing services (e.g., copy editing or proofreading), without publishing support, please contact us for our fair rates.
-
Yes. We have extensive experience working with authors on serious nonfiction writing for magazines and journals. Our work has been published in, for example, the Harvard Business Review, The Conversation, and Global Policy Journal.
-
We are strongly opposed to the use of AI in book publishing. If authors want their names to be on the book cover, they have to write the book. We do not accept any book generated or developed with AI. And we never use AI for any of our editorial or design work.
